Dr Funmi Lesi is currently Viral Hepatitis Team Lead at the Global hepatitis Programme, Department of Global HIV, Hepatitis and STI Programmes (HHS), WHO Headquarters in Geneva, where she coordinates and supports the implementation of the global hepatitis B and C public health elimination strategy for impact in WHO member states.
She coordinated the development of the hepatitis Path-to-Elimination (PTE) framework and update of the country validation guidance, as well as contributing to the update of the 2024 WHO HBV treatment guidelines, the WHO Global Hepatitis report and the Triple PMTCT elimination guidance, She is a Gastroenterologist & Hepatologist and Professor of Medicine (University of Lagos, Nigeria 2001-2017) and previously served as Viral Hepatitis Regional Advisor for WHO Africa. She has supported the development of hepatitis programmes in multiple countries in the African region, strengthened hepatitis surveillance, and established strategic partnerships
