Dr. Alcalá earned his Ph.D. in Ebola virology from the École Normale Supérieure de Lyon, France, in 2023. His research in high-containment laboratories has centered on host–virus interactions, encompassing clinically relevant pathogens such as Ebola and hepatitis B and D viruses. He is currently a postdoctoral researcher in the team of Dr. Barbara Testoni and Prof. Fabien Zoulim at the Lyon Hepatology Institute, where he manages a collaborative project with Bluejay Therapeutics. This project focuses on BJT-778, a fully human monoclonal antibody against the hepatitis B and D viruses.
