SIMON FLETCHER, PH.D., is a Vice President of Virology at Gilead, leading antiviral drug discovery for viral hepatitis, respiratory viruses, and herpesvirus as well as emerging and pandemic viruses. Dr. Fletcher has over 25 years of experience in virology with broad experience in drug discovery and development.
Dr. Fletcher joined Gilead from Roche, where he led drug discovery and translational research teams working towards the development of a functional cure for chronic hepatitis B. Prior to that, he worked at Anadys Pharmaceuticals where he contributed to the development of novel therapies to treat chronic hepatitis C. Since joining Gilead, Dr. Fletcher and his colleagues have established research programs focused on HBV cure, HDV treatment and cure, and the treatment of respiratory viruses, herpesviruses, pandemic and emerging viruses.
Dr. Fletcher received his undergraduate and Ph.D. degrees in Biochemistry from the University of Cambridge, UK. He performed post-doctoral studies in virology at Roche in the UK prior to moving to the US.
