Onyinye Esenwa is a second-year Internal Medicine resident at the University of Ottawa. She completed her medical degree at the University of Toronto in 2024 and previously earned an undergraduate degree in Neuroscience and Mental Health from Carleton University. She has a strong academic and career interest in gastroenterology, with current research projects focused on inflammatory bowel disease, nutrition, and colorectal cancer screening.
Onyinye is passionate about medical education and mentorship across all stages of training and for all learners. Her specific advocacy interests centers on building community and advancing equitable opportunities for Black learners in medicine. She currently serves as Co-Lead of the Ottawa chapter of the Black Resident Physicians of Ontario, where she supports initiatives aimed at fostering connection, mentorship, and career development.
