Dr. Tim Vanuytsel graduated in 2007 from Leuven University Medical School in Belgium. He obtained a PhD degree in biomedical sciences in 2014 with a thesis on the role and mechanisms of intestinal permeability in functional gastrointestinal disorders. He is a consultant gastroenterologist in Leuven University Hospitals in Leuven, Belgium. He is also the co-founder and medical lead of the Leuven Intestinal Failure and Transplantation center (LIFT), the largest intestinal failure center and the only intestinal transplant center in Belgium. Dr. Vanuytsel is an associate professor at Leuven University. His research interest lies in the pathophysiology and treatment of disorders of gut-brain interaction and short bowel syndrome. In 2022 he received the UEG Rising Star Award.
