Nathalie Rommel (MSc, PhD) is appointed as Full Professor at the Faculty of Medicine at University of Leuven, Belgium. She runs the Deglutology Research Group (Neurosciences, Deglutology) focusing on the development of pharyngeal and esophageal motility, on the pathophysiology of dysphagia, on novel diagnostic methods to assess motility disorders and on the evaluation of the currently available treatment modalities for upper GI motility disorders and dysphagia, such as neuromodulation in patients across life span.
Clinically, she focuses on pharyngeal videomanometry at the multidisciplinary Deglutology Clinic and on esophageal manometry at Neurogastroenterology & Motility Clinic of the Gastroenterology Department, University Hospitals Leuven, offering a diagnostic service to neonatal, pediatric, adult and geriatric patients with dysphagia and upper gastrointestinal motility disorders such as rumination and inability to belch.
Within the Faculty of Medicine of the KU Leuven, Professor Rommel is the program Director of the Advanced Master in Deglutology at KU Leuven, a one-year EU-accredited Master Degree program, training students in the clinical care and science of deglutition and its disorders (deglutology.com).
