Dr. Louis Liu is the Head of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University Health Network (UHN) and Sinai Health, and the Director of the Clinical Motility Unit at UHN. He has held the Driscoll Family Chair in Digestive Health since its inauguration in 2023. Dr. Liu established the Neurogastroenterology and Motility (NGM) clinical program at UHN and founded the University of Toronto Neurogastroenterology and Motility Fellowship Program in 2009. He currently serves as President of the Canadian Association of Neurogastroenterology and Motility (CANMO). He previously served as Course Co-Director of the Metabolism and Nutrition Unit in the University of Toronto undergraduate MD Program (2011–2015) and as Vice President of Administrative Affairs for the Canadian Association of Gastroenterology (2018–2022). Internationally, Dr. Liu was the University of Toronto Lead for the GI Residency Training Program at Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia (2010–2020) and, in partnership with the World Gastroenterology Organization, inaugurated Ethiopia’s first Endoscopy Training Center at Tikur Anbessa Hospital in 2015. A dedicated and accomplished educator and researcher, Dr. Liu has been recognized with multiple awards for excellence in education and research.
