Her primary research program specializes in the study of immune dysfunction in chronic liver disease to identify immune-restorative targets. Her research program is focused on investigating the underlying mechanisms of immune cell dysfunction using high throughput cell culture and multi-parametric analytical methods. She integrates immunoassays of immune cell function with clinical data in established partnerships with clinician scientists in a translational research approach. Research using primary human specimens is complemented by the development of relevant animal models of liver disease. She facilitates basic science and clinical collaborations with colleagues in the Center for Liver of Eastern Ontario, offering laboratory research opportunities and biobanking of specimens as a shared resource.
Dr. Crawley is also the Director of the Canadian Biobank Alliance (CBA), which emerged in the recent pandemic from the Coronavirus Variants Rapid Response Network (CoVaRR-Net) in April 2021.
