Dr. Matthanja Bieze is a staff anesthesiologist at Erasmus MC specializing in hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) surgery and liver transplantation. She combines extensive clinical expertise with a strong translational research focus in perioperative care for transplant patients.

Dr. Bieze completed advanced fellowships in abdominal organ transplantation anesthesia and cardiac anesthesia and critical care at Toronto General Hospital (ON, Canada), where she continues to collaborate on international research initiatives. Her work spans key areas in liver transplantation, including graft optimization, coagulation management, perioperative organ protection, and patient outcomes following orthotopic liver transplantation.
She obtained her PhD at Amsterdam UMC, focusing on the diagnosis and management of hypervascular hepatic tumors, and has since built a broad academic portfolio with numerous publications in leading journals.
