Dr. Omer Faruk Karakaya is a Research Fellow at the Cleveland Clinic in the Schlegel Lab. His research focuses on machine perfusion strategies in liver transplantation, with a particular emphasis on mitochondrial injury and dysfunction during ischemia–reperfusion injury. He is also working on establishing cholangiocyte organoid models to better understand the mechanisms of biliary injury in liver transplantation
