As a chief surgeon, Professor Zhu has performed more than 3,000 liver transplant procedures. He pioneered large-scale pediatric liver transplantation in China, and has performed a variety of complex liver transplant procedures including split liver transplantation, domino liver transplantation, dual-graft liver transplantation, monosegmental liver transplantation, reduced-size liver transplantation, and auxiliary liver transplantation, with postoperative patient survival rates among the leading levels in China.
Professor Zhu is the first to establish and perform dual domino cross auxiliary liver transplantation and mutual partial liver transplantation, as well as orthotopic laparoscopy-assisted liver transplantation. He has vigorously promoted the development of minimally invasive liver transplantation in China.
