Professor Quirino Lai, MD, PhD, is Associate Professor of General Surgery at Sapienza University of Rome and Consultant Surgeon in the Unit of General Surgery and Organ Transplantation at Policlinico Umberto I. His clinical practice focuses on liver and kidney transplantation, transplant oncology, hepatobiliary surgery, and multiorgan procurement from DBD and DCD donors.
He completed his medical degree, specialization in General Surgery, and PhD at Sapienza University of Rome, with doctoral research focused on predictors of hepatocellular carcinoma recurrence after liver transplantation. He further trained in liver transplantation at UCL Brussels, and Pisa Hospital.
His main research interests include liver transplantation for HCC, transplant oncology, predictive models of recurrence, artificial intelligence in transplantation, cholangiocarcinoma, colorectal liver metastases, and machine perfusion.
Professor Lai has authored more than 320 indexed publications, with over 6,600 citations and an H-index of 40.
