Rodrigo Zapata MD, FAASLD. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the Catholic University of Chile (1992), with specialties in Internal Medicine (1995) and Gastroenterology (1997) at the same university. He then completed a Clinical fellowship in Hepatology and Liver Transplantation at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, USA (USC, AASLD Scholarship 2000-2001). He has worked at the University of Chile (Hospital Salvador 1997-2017), and at Universidad del Desarrollo and Clinica Alemana (1997-2026), as clinical hepatologist involved in liver transplantation and teaching as full Professor of Medicine (since 2015). He served as President of the Chilean Hepatology Association (ACCHEP 2008-2010) and then as President of the Chilean Society of Gastroenterology (SCHGE 2012-2014). In 2015, he was recognized as a Fellow (FAASLD) by the American Association for the Study of the Liver (AASLD). He is currently a member of the Hepatology Committee of the World Gastroenterology Organization (WGO, 2026-2028) and Chair of the special interest group in liver transplantation of the Latin American Association for the Study of the Liver (ALEH, 2020-2026). He is the author/co-author of 14 book chapters, > 80 publications in national or international journals, > 200 presentations (abstracts) at national and international meetings and has participated in national or international guidelines related to liver transplantation, viral hepatitis and hepatocarcinoma.
