Dr. Monique M.A. Verstegen is an Associate Professor at the Department of Surgery, Erasmus MC Transplant Institute, University Medical Center Rotterdam. She completed her Ph.D. studies at the Department of Hematology, Erasmus MC, undertook postdoctoral research at the same department, and served as a Marie Curie Fellow at the Hannover Medical School, Germany. She is actively involved in projects focusing on the development of liver scaffolds for tissue and organ engineering, mechanisms of biliary epithelium regeneration after injury, and primary liver cancer research using organoid cultures. Her research interests include liver regenerative medicine and biliary tract cancer.
