Dr. Sudhakar K. Venkatesh is an internationally recognized radiologist whose work has significantly advanced abdominal imaging, particularly quantitative MRI and liver imaging biomarkers. As Professor of Radiology and Consultant in the Abdominal Division at Mayo Clinic, he is widely regarded as a leading authority in clinical applications of magnetic resonance elastography (MRE), a technique that quantitatively assesses liver fibrosis, steatosis, and portal hypertension without biopsy.
His research has been central to integrating imaging science with clinical hepatology. He has led efforts to standardize MRE interpretation and quantitative MRI protocols, shaping global practice guidelines and consensus recommendations. As co‑investigator on multiple NIH-funded studies, he has advanced multiparametric MRI for liver and pancreatic diseases. His scholarly impact— more than 320 publications, over 15000 citations and an h‑index of 65—reflects substantial international influence.
Dr. Venkatesh is a Fellow of SAR, SABI, ESGAR, and ISMRM and has received repeated honors including RSNA’s Honored Educator and multiple Cum Laude and Editors’ Recognition awards.
