Research efforts have focused on advancing the fields of transplant genetics and xenotransplantation, with particular emphasis on understanding the molecular, immunologic, and metabolic determinants of graft function and long-term outcomes. This work integrates genomic and biomarker discovery approaches with translational models of organ support and replacement, including the study of genetically engineered porcine liver for clinical application. The program has been continuously supported by multiple National Institutes of Health grants over many years, reflecting sustained federal investment in both the fundamental biology and the clinical translation of these innovations.
