Prof. Dr. Fuat H. Saner is a distinguished critical care physician and professor
specializing in liver transplantation and perioperative intensive care. He currently
serves at the Organ Transplant Center of Excellence at King Faisal Specialist
Hospital & Research Centre in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Prof. Saner earned his medical degree from Johannes Gutenberg University in
Mainz, Germany, and completed his clinical training at Horst-Schmidt-Kliniken in
Wiesbaden. He later became the Director of the Surgical Critical Care Unit at the
Department of General, Visceral, and Transplant Surgery at the University Hospital
Essen, University of Duisburg-Essen.
His clinical and research expertise focuses on the management of patients with acute
and chronic liver failure, particularly those undergoing liver transplantation. Dr. Saner
has extensively studied hemodynamic instability, coagulation disorders, and
infections in end-stage liver disease. He has authored over 230 publications and coedited
the book Critical Care for Potential Liver Transplant Candidates, which
provides comprehensive insights into the perioperative care of liver transplant
patients.
Prof. Saner is actively involved in several professional societies, including the
International Liver Transplantation Society (ILTS), where he serves as a member of
the Council, and the Liver Intensive Care Group of Europe (LICAGE), for which he
has served as president from 2018 to 2022. His contributions have significantly
