Gurmukh Singh Sahota, MD, PhD is an Associate Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology and Critical Care at the Perelman School of Medicine and a practicing anesthesiologist at the University of Pennsylvania. He holds leadership roles within the department, including Director of Clinical Informatics, Senior Scholar at the Penn Center for Perioperative Outcomes Research and Transformation (CPORT), Associate Residency Program Director, and Chief of Thoracic Regional Anesthesia.

Dr. Sahota earned his bachelor’s degrees in Molecular Biology & Biochemistry and Computer Science from Rutgers University. He completed a master’s degree in Biophysics and Computational Biology at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, followed by an MD and PhD in Computational and Systems Biology at Washington University in St. Louis. He then completed his anesthesiology residency at the University of Pennsylvania Health System.

Clinically, Dr. Sahota specializes in general anesthesiology with particular expertise in thoracic anesthesia, neuroanesthesia, liver transplant anesthesia, and advanced airway management. His nonclinical roles include medical informatics, physician scheduling and resident education.
