Speaker Bio
With over two decades of experience as a transplant surgeon-scientist and the Director of the Transplantation Unit at the University of Maryland Medical System, I have honed my expertise in liver and renal transplantation. My work is centered on enhancing organ utilization and advancing living donation, particularly within liver transplantation.
In my role, I not only oversee clinical operations but also drive cutting-edge research funded by NIH grants and pharmaceutical trials. My research focuses on identifying molecular markers associated with marginal organs to refine donor selection and optimize organ use. Additionally, I investigate the early events influencing liver grafts with the goal of improving transplant success rates and patient outcomes.
Collaborating with esteemed colleagues, I have contributed to over 170 publications and presented our findings at numerous prestigious conferences. Our establishment of a biobank for liver and kidney donors and recipients further enriches our research capabilities and supports ongoing investigations.
My extensive background in transplant surgeries, recipient management, and immunology, coupled with my leadership experience, positions me well to contribute effectively as a co-principal investigator for proposed research initiatives.
