Speaker Bio
Artur Kośnik, MD, PhD, is a hepatologist at the Department of Hepatology, Transplantology and Internal Medicine in Warsaw, Poland, which forms part of one of the largest liver transplantation centers in Europe. He graduated from the Medical University of Warsaw, where he also completed his doctoral training focused on advanced liver disease and transplant medicine.

His clinical and research interests broadly concern acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF), particularly mechanisms determining short-term prognosis and transplant eligibility in critically ill cirrhotic patients. His work reflects a multidimensional approach to ACLF pathophysiology, including systemic inflammation, immune dysfunction, endocrine disturbances, renal injury, and complex alterations of hemostasis. He is especially interested in clinically applicable biomarkers and dynamic parameters that improve early identification of high-risk patients beyond conventional prognostic scores.

Dr. Kośnik’s research also explores extracorporeal liver support therapies and their role as bridging strategies to transplantation, as well as factors influencing survival during intensive care management. He focuses on translating routinely available laboratory data into practical bedside decision-making, aiming to support individualized treatment and timing of transplantation.

He works in close collaboration with transplant surgeons, anesthesiologists, and critical care specialists within a multidisciplinary transplant program and is involved in training residents and fellows in hepatology and transplant medicine.

Dr. Kośnik has authored and co-authored peer-reviewed publications and presents his research at international scientific meetings. His current academic activity aims to improve prognostic stratification and optimize clinical management pathways for patients with acute-on-chronic liver failure.
