Dr. Manikandan Kathirvel is a Consultant Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) and Multi-Organ Transplant Surgeon at the Institute of Liver Diseases and Transplantation, Gleneagles HealthCity (Fortis Hospitals), Chennai. He has extensive international experience, having trained and worked in high-volume transplant centres in the United Kingdom, including Cambridge University Hospitals and the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust.
He completed his MBBS and MS in General Surgery from PSG Institute of Medical Sciences, Coimbatore, graduating as a gold medallist, followed by an MCh in Gastrointestinal Surgery with distinction. He is a Member (MRCS) and Fellow (FRCS) of the Royal College of Surgeons, with subspecialisation in transplant surgery, and has been awarded CESR (Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) in the UK, recognising him as a consultant-level specialist in HPB and liver transplantation.
His clinical interests include complex liver resections, liver transplantation (deceased and living donor), and pancreatic surgery, with a strong academic focus on expanding the donor pool through innovations such as donation after circulatory death and machine perfusion.
Dr. Kathirvel is also the Founder and Programme Director of PrepMedico, an international surgical education platform delivering structured training for higher surgical examinations, including FRCS General Surgery, Vascular, and Ophthalmology. Under his leadership, the FRCS General Surgery programme is officially endorsed by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and PrepMedico is a Higher Surgical Education Partner of the Association of Surgeons in Training (UK).
He is an active member of the Vanguard Committee of the International Liver Transplantation Society (ILTS) and has contributed to its academic initiatives and consensus conferences.
