Dr William Bernal is Professor of Liver Critical Care Medicine at the Liver Intensive Therapy Unit at the Institute of Liver Studies at Kings College Hospital in London, UK. He is a practicing Intensivist running a specialist critical care unit for patients with severe liver and pancreatic disease, supporting one of the largest liver transplantation programs in Europe.

He leads the United Kingdom program for expedited transplantation for acute-on-chronic liver failure. His research interests include the pathogenesis and management of acute and acute-on-chronic liver failure, and the utilization of liver transplantation in emergency settings.
