Wojtek Polak, MD, PhD, is an accomplished transplant and hepatobiliary surgeon with extensive international training and academic experience. He graduated cum laude in medicine from the Medical University of Wroclaw in 1992 and completed his internship in Munich, Germany. He undertook residency training in general surgery at the University Hospital in Wroclaw, where he later became a consultant surgeon, and earned his first PhD in 1998. He completed a surgical fellowship in hepatobiliary surgery and liver transplantation at the University Medical Center Groningen in the Netherlands, followed by active involvement in kidney and liver transplantation programs in Poland. Dr. Polak has held consultant roles in hepatobiliary and transplant surgery in Groningen and has been a certified transplant surgeon of the European Board of Surgeons since 2007. In 2008, he defended a second PhD thesis on technical aspects of liver transplantation and was appointed Associate Professor at the Medical University of Wroclaw. Since 2009, he has worked as a consultant transplant and hepatobiliary surgeon at Erasmus MC, University Medical Center Rotterdam, where he currently serves as Surgical Director of the Liver Transplant Program. His clinical and scientific expertise focuses on liver transplantation and hepatobiliary surgery.
